Victor Smith of Portland, OR envisioned a fathers conference in Detroit over Father's Day weekend 2005 to honor Al Leboe, a long-time Michigan Fathers for Equal Rights activist. The men from Michigan wanted a more "centrist" approach with families in the title. So the name of the conference became Families and Fathers Conference 2005 sponsored by Family Rights Coalition, DADS of Michigan, an ACFC Affiliate, Citizens for Parental Rights, and Fathers for Equal Rights.
